Chris Brown Documentary: From Being 'America's Sweetheart to Public Enemy No. 1'; Suicidal After Rihanna Assault

A two-minute teaser for singer Chris Brown's new documentary film "Welcome to My Life" has been released. In it, the singer calls himself a "monster" and describes his recent life journey from being "America's sweetheart" down to becoming "public enemy number one." The documentary tells of what his life is like presently and, among other things, what has transpired in his public life in the last ten years, including his greatly publicized assault of his then-partner, Rihanna, which almost ended his career.

Besides his assault of Rihanna in 2009, Brown has a history of violence and arrest for assault. In 2014, during his probation for his attack on his then-girlfriend, he hit a man outside a Washington hotel. In the same year, he hit another man who tried to get into a picture with him and two women.

Following a string of assaults and arrests, the Grammy-awarded singer canceled a tour of Australia after he was petitioned in anti-violence campaigns in the country. Some months before the tour schedule, he had posted a message on his Twitter account about wanting to help raise awareness in the aforementioned country about violence.

The trailer showed recent as well as archival footage of what has transpired in his life; Brown even confesses to drug abuse and suffering depression. Directed by Andrew Sandler, the documentary shows interviews with some peers from the industry as well as celebrities like DJ Khaled, Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Lopez, Mary J. Blige, and even Brown's mother.

But it was the R&B singer's revelation, "I was thinking about suicide …" which attracted negative comment from some people.

Brandon E. Patterson (@myblackmindd) reacted on Twitter: "So Chris Brown clowned Kehlani for attempting suicide after considering it himself?? Indisputable TRASH."

And another, "may" (@chanelmxy) shares the same reaction, "'There is no attempting suicide. Stop flexing for the gram.' how you gonna bash Kehlani when you doing the same …"

These messages were in reference to Brown's recent comments regarding another singer, Kehlani, who had attempted suicide after a cheating scandal.

As to what Rihanna had to say, she had given permission for him to speak about his assaulting her, but she had been concerned that he may not be prepared for reliving the incident. A source has told HollywoodLife.com about Rihanna's worries, saying that Brown had told Rihanna of his plans for a documentary, mentioning the "nightmare night."

"At first she was surprised he wanted to go public with this. She cautioned him that he had to be mentally and emotionally prepared to go back and relive it. However, he reassured her that this was something good, something he wanted to do. She supported him, and still supports him."

In the meantime, another ex of Brown's, Karrueche Tran, will not be watching the documentary.

A source has told HollywoodLife.com, "she's not about to sit there and listen to his lies and take part in his pity party. Please. She's so done with Chris and his crap, and him trying to make people feel sorry for him."

A release date for the documentary has not been announced. In the meantime, the singer has recently dropped a new track, "Shut Down," a teaser for his mixtape with the Original Hood Bosses.
