Chris Pine News: Actor Talks About Jack Ryan Film Sequel
Actor Chris Pine admitted he failed to do justice to the well-loved Tom Clancy character Jack Ryan and that it could mean that he won't be appearing for its future sequel.
The "Star Trek: Into Darkness" actor did an interview with Moviefone where he spoke about his latest film "Into the Woods" and his regrets on "Jack Ryan: The Shadow Recruit." In the conversation he revealed that Jack Ryan won't be happening soon, at least with him in the titular role.
"No. I don't think it made enough money for that to happen. That's one of my deep regrets, that we didn't totally get that right. It's a great franchise and if it's not me then I hope it gets a fifth life at this point. It's just great. I love the spy genre. I hope it's done again and with a great story," the 34-year-old "Rise of the Guardians" actor said.
The Kenneth Brangagh-helmed spy thriller earned only about $50 million in the U.S., in comparison to its "already-low" $60 million production budget.
With that in mind, Paramount may hold off on any plans to move the Jack Ryan franchise forward.
Pine was the latest to suit up for the role. The character has appeared in four relatively successful installments namely "The Hunt for Red October," "Patriot Games," "Clear and Present Danger," and "The Sum of All Fears."
"As for the future of the Jack Ryan character, there's little doubt Pine will get his wish and see the franchise rebooted at some point," Haleigh Foutch of Collider wrote. "Give it a few years and we're sure to see a new Jack Ryan film in the pipeline."
