Chris Weidman News: Former Middleweight Champion "Happy" He Lost Against Luke Rockhold At UFC 194

In an ironic twist of things, former UFC middleweight world champion Chris Weidman is actually in an upbeat state after his devastating loss to new champion Luke Rockhold at UFC 194.

Rockhold stopped the man who was able to defeat the great Anderson Silva twice in the fourth round of their co-main event bout. Most painfully for Weidman, it marked the first loss of his six-year professional mixed martial arts career.

In his recent appearance on Monday's episode of Ariel Helwani's online mixed martial arts show "The MMA Hour" for MMA Fighting, Weidman shared his thoughts on the loss since the fight that took place on December 12th at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Weidman explained how the outcome "felt like a bad dream" that he wanted to sleep on, but he also described the experience as a surreal one. He also says that he is in a "better place," as far as his mental and emotional state goes.

"It was just a great experience for me. I could play back a million things in that fight I could've done differently, but I'm really happy I lost," Weidman says, according to the same MMA Fighting report.

"I feel like if I would've won that fight, if I would've somehow figured a way to beat him up, I wouldn't have the opportunity that I have now to grow as a fighter and truly reach my potential," he added.

The former 185-pound champion also spoke about the "weirdness" he felt during the six-week training camp leading up to the fight. According to him, while he did train hard like he always does, he somehow didn't feel excited about fighting this time around.

He did maintain that he holds no regrets despite the loss, adding that he now has the ability to "come back better".

Weidman now holds a professional mixed martial arts record of 13-1, with nine victories by stoppage.
