Christian Band Seeks Donations After $14K Theft

March 25, 2010|11:39 pm

A Christian rock band is seeking donations to cover what they lost when their van was broken into this week following their last appearance at a Baptist megachurch in Houston.

The Jeff Johnson Band had just finished leading worship at First Baptist Church’s third service Sunday when they returned from a quick bite to find that their van had been broken into and $14,000-worth of items missing, including their laptops and bags.

“Horrible feeling,” tweeted frontman Jeff Johnson at 8:30 p.m. – about an hour after his band led worship for First Baptist’s 6:30 p.m. service.

By 10 p.m., the four-man band’s credit cards had already been used and a police report was filed.

“$800 in merch money gone also, but clinging to Gen 50:20 tonite (sic). ‘you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good,’” Johnson tweeted shortly before 11 p.m.

Though the band’s van was insured, Johnson reported the next morning that the insurance didn’t cover the grand total of the theft – prompting the group to set up a donation site later that day.

“Please help if you can,” the band states on their website, jeffjohnsonband.org.

Donations, which are being made through PayPal, are being made out to Jeff Johnson Ministries.
