The lead singer for Christian rock band Big Daddy Weave has already lost 30 lbs since launching his campaign to lose 90 in 2009.
Furthermore, frontman Mike Weaver’s “90 in ‘09” challenge has already influenced over 10,000 people to start a healthier lifestyle.
“Our bodies are temples that God created,” says Weaver. “I want to restore and take better care of what He has provided, as well as create a place to motivate and teach others to do the same. With 90 in ’09 we’ll all be held more accountable because we won’t be able to hide the scales.”
According to The Endocrine Society and The Hormone Foundation, obesity is the second leading cause of preventable death in the United States and affects 60 million adults. And while 30.5 percent of U.S. adults are obese, an estimated 65.2 are considered overweight along with 15 percent of children and adolescents.
Furthermore, obesity is associated with type 2 diabetes, hyperlipidemia, coronary artery disease, arthritis, gallstones and certain types of cancer.
To encourage fans to join the health challenge, “Team Mike” is inviting them to join them at 09in09.com and upload their own photos and track their successes while following Weaver’s progress.

Participants get access to healthy food recipes, exercise techniques and more wellness information. They can also meet the 90 in ‘09 support team, which includes renowned wellness leaders Dr. Asa Andrew, also known as “America’s Health Coach,” and Scott Reall, YMCA Restore Ministries’ founder and executive director.
Throughout the year, Weaver, Andrew and Reall will be featured through the media outlets of partners HearItFirst.com and the KLOVE radio network, giving updates and news on the challenge in addition to video content to encourage participants.
Weaver is also promoting the campaign as the band traverses the nation on its “What Life Would Be Like Tour,” a continuance of last fall’s successful 37-city run in support of the band’s 2008 CD of the same name.
Entering its eleventh year complete with all original members, Big Daddy Weave released What Life Would Be Like, its fifth studio project, last summer. The album’s title cut held a Top 10 position at radio for 19 weeks while peaking at the No. 3 spot.
