Christina Aguilera Eliminates Another Gospel Singer From 'The Voice'

Christina Aguilera, a judge on NBC's singing competition, The Voice, has eliminated Jesse Campbell in the show's quarter-final to the surprise and upset of many.

Campbell, a gospel singer who has performed in the churches of Bishop T.D Jakes, Prophetess Juanita Bynum and Dr. Creflo Dollar, told the country his story about overcoming homelessness with an 11-year-old daughter to pursue the dream of touching people with his voice. Although judges Cee Lo Green, Blake Shelton, Adam Levine and Aguilera have given Campbell positive remarks each week, he was eliminated during Monday night's competition.

During the competition, judges and competitors were surprised with the news that Shelton and Aguilera would each have to eliminate a member of their teams after the performances on Monday night. After Levine said Campbell was a "huge huge favorite" to win the entire competition following his performance of Beyonce's "Halo," fans took to Twitter to express their shock.

"Who else does Christina think is better than Jesse Campbell on her team," a fan questioned on twitter. "My mind is blown. Bad choice."

Shelton expressed upset concerning the live eliminations where he and Aguilera were forced to eliminate singers from their own groups instead of allowing America to vote.

"I didn't see this coming tonight," Shelton said. "This instant elimination thing has caught us all off tonight."

Campbell reportedly told Los Angeles TV Insider that Aguilera did not fight for him the way she promised when he joined her team.

"She said that she would fight for me and she didn't at this point," Campbell said.

Still, he was positive in an interview with the "Today Show" Tuesday morning. "I'm not mad or disappointed, I'm just thankful for the experience so far," Campbell said.

Aguilera had only kind words for Campbell, the second gospel singer that she has chosen to eliminate from her team in recent weeks.

"Jesse you will go on to create beautiful music and fulfill your desire to touch and move people through your voice," Aguilera tweeted. "Love and light."
