Senior pastor of Cornerstone Church in Buena Vista, Colorado, Charlie Stombaugh and his wife, Miranda Schumann, 26 in happier times.

Miranda Schumann, 26, the wife of popular senior pastor of Cornerstone Church in Buena Vista, Colorado, Charlie Stombaugh, was killed in an accident near Copper Mountain Friday after the SUV she was traveling in flipped and rolled multiple times.

A 9 News report said two of the pastor's children were also injured in the crash. The Christian Post reached out to the church on Tuesday and received no response. According to 9 News, however, Stombaugh is devastated at the loss of his wife of just eight months.

"He loved that woman with all his heart. He's heartbroken. He's Charlie. People who know Charlie know how strong he is. But he lost his wife," said Leslie Quilico, a friend and family pastor at Cornerstone Church.

"Miranda was a true light. A smile on her face makes the whole room smile," she added.

News of the crash, according to the report, has hit the Buena Vista community very hard, particularly because a family from the church was killed in a massive rockslide last year.

In recalling the relationship of the recently married couple, Quilico said it was a trip.

"They loved to play together. They loved to travel together. Miranda was very passionate about traveling," she said.

The family, she explained, was preparing for a trip to Yellowstone National Park just before the accident.

"We trust that God is good, but we mourn right now," said Quilico, pointing out the people are asking how and why something so tragic would happen to people who are so devoted to their faith.

"That's a question that we've all answered for people a thousand times, and I think the answer for us right now is, we don't know," said Quilico.
