The Republican platform committee has rejected an amendment that would have endorsed civil unions for gay couples. The GOP has maintained its official support for a constitutional amendment that would "protect traditional marriage" by defining it as between a man and a woman. The Democratic National Committee platform has embraced gay marriage, urged on by President Barack Obama's decision to endorse it earlier in the year.

The mystery of the gruesome story of body parts being found in Mississauga and Toronto …appears to be solved. Peel Regional Police say the remains are those of a single mother of three, who went missing earlier this month. The investigation began when a human foot was found in the Credit River in Mississauga. Police believe the case is isolated and are treating it as a homicide.

Two men in Afghan police uniforms shot at U.S. troops in southern Afghanistan, killing one and injuring another. At least 40 coalition forces have been killed in such incidents this year, including 26 Americans. The surge in insider violence by Afghan allies against their international partners has raised doubts about the ability of the two forces to work together at a key transition time. Afghan forces are expected to take over security for the country by the end of 2014, as international forces leave. The head of the Afghan Taliban, Mullah Omar, claims that militants have successfully infiltrated Afghan security forces…. to carry out such attacks. US president Obama announced concerns…..

The Chick-Fil-A controversy over traditional marriage has caught the attention of an advertising and marketing strategist. Chris Stone is founding partner of a branding organization called "The Stone Agency". He also runs: "FaithDrivenConsumer.org." According to Stone, faith driven consumers are large enough to matter, with a full 70 percent of Americans identifying themselves as Christians. Stone suspects that Chick-Fil-A's ultra-successful "Appreciation Day" was a sensation because of Faith Driven Consumers. Stone's website encourages Christian Consumers to think….. "Faith First". He also believes "Buycotting" is far more powerful than "boycotting," ….as we saw with the Chick-Fil-A Appreciation Day drive.

Many of you may not know this, but there is a law that requires the state Office of Homeland Security to stress…. "dependence on Almighty God as being vital to the security of the Commonwealth." Well, now American Atheists has challenged it in court and the Kentucky Supreme Court has rejected their petition, refusing to review the case they brought forth. Now the group is considering appealing to the federal level.

A Scottish Church leader has called the famous evolutionary biologist—Richard Dawkins—a snob. That's because Dawkins turned him down on a Religion debate. Reverend David Robertson, a Free Church Minister in Dundee added that he suspected Dawkins isn't a good debater either. The debate would have been at a festival which examines faith and religion through different lenses. The festival also includes a speech by Richard Dawkins on his book: The God Delusion which advises society to outgrow beliefs in a God that does not exist. His invitation to the festival sparked widespread concern in the local Christian community. Some Church leaders even called for a boycott of the festival when Dawkins was invited.

IN HEALTH NEWS…..

Even the smallest injury can lead to major problems. If not taken care of immediately, scratches and cuts can become inflamed and infected and could mean a trip to the emergency room. That's why doctors are recommending that everyone have a first aid kit handy.
