Egypt’s military leaders are now under intense international pressure to explain the deaths. According to some independent reports— Soldiers used an armored vehicle to plough into a crowd of Christians as they sang hymns and held a cross. Officials at Open Doors USA, said their contacts in Cairo reported that the violence was initiated by the Egyptian government’s security forces, against people who were peacefully protesting. Funeral processions have begun while the death toll is expected to rise. Since the ousting of President Hosni Mubarak, persecution against Egypt’s 10 percent Christian population has increased .

But all the other Republican candidates stood in unison with their view that Romney’s religion should not be an issue.
