Criminal Minds Season 10 premiere date finally arrives on October 1, 2014 with the eagerly awaited premiere set to take place on TV on the CBS channel at 9 p.m. ET.

That departure allows new cast members to be added, and many rumors ahead of the season has focused on the fact that Jennifer Love Hewitt will join as a series regular as agent Kate Callahan.

Hewitt's character will be bringing something new to the team.

Agent Kate Callahan's line of specialization will be undercover operations.

Ahead of the premiere, showrunner Erica Messer has said: "You see [Kate] doing something you don't see our team ever doing, which is schmoozing with a bad guy, working undercover to take a pedophile down.

"We've never seen our team pretend to like a criminal, so right off the bat she's different in that way," according to Fashion and Style.

Messer has also told TV Line, "We need to figure out a few things with Morgan's girlfriend [Savannah, played by Rochelle Aytes] and Hotch's girlfriend [Beth, played by Bellamy Young] and see how we'll explore those stories this year."

She also spilled the beans, explaining that in Episode 3, BAU will be dispatched to the site of "one of the largest disasters with mass casualties they've seen in their 10-year history."

Criminal Minds Season 10 Episode 1 will be titled simply "X" and will follow the BAU team as they head to California with their newest member Kate Callahan. Kerr Smith will guest star as Frank Cowles.
