Dad Made Teen Drink, Say Police; Alcohol Punishment Caused 15-Y-O to Pass Out

A dad made his teen drink, police said. Tennessee father Mark Allen Hughes was punishing his 15-year-old son for drinking while underage, but took things too far and the teen passed out.

The dad who made his teen drink was arrested by Sweetwater police for the incident, according to WBIR-TV. Hughes, 35, was charged with aggravated child abuse, neglect, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Hughes' issue with his son began when he caught the 15-year-old drinking. The father forced his son to play some sort of drinking game that caused the teen to become very inebriated. Witnesses to the incident called police, who also alerted emergency services.

When the authorities arrived, they found that the teen was blacked out and had no pulse. They performed CPR on the youth until an ambulance arrived, and the 15-year-old was taken to a local hospital, according to the Associated Press.

Mark Allen Hughes was arrested by Sweetwater police officers shortly thereafter.

The unnamed teen was eventually released from the hospital and appears to be doing well despite the incident, his grandmother told AP.

It's doubtful Hughes will get off easy — Sweetwater Police Chief Eddie Byrum promised that the case will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
