Dan Aykroyd, Sheriff's Deputy: Actor Sworn in at Mississippi Police Department

Dan Aykroyd is a sheriff's deputy as of Friday when the actor was sworn in as a lawman in Mississippi. Aykroyd was in Hinds County shooting a film and applied to become a deputy in the area.

Dan Aykroyd's position as a sheriff's deputy for Hinds County Sheriff Tyrone Lewis would primarily be organizing programs and fundraisers for the cash-strapped authorities. The 61-year-old takes his position very seriously, and plans on using his fame for good in the area, according to The Clarion Ledger.

"It's an honor to join these ranks today," the Canadian actor said at his swearing-in. "I understand the challenges that law enforcement face in today's world. I am able to go all over the world now and talk up this county, talk up this state and talk up the people of the Hinds County Sheriff's Department."

"It's a great honor, and I hope I can uphold my duties professionally and with integrity and honesty," he added.

Aykroyd, who received a badge and uniform during the ceremony, was also quite humble; the actor wasn't above kissing up to Sheriff Lewis.

"I don't think there's a better dressed sheriff in the United States," the actor said. "The man is sure styling, and he backs it up with intelligence, integrity and real care for his personnel."

This isn't Aykroyd's first foray into law enforcement. The comedian studied criminal justice in college and was a part of two law enforcement agencies in Louisiana for 16 years. Aykroyd's experience in the field is part of the reason he was accepted for the job.

"He's very qualified," Lewis told The Ledger. "He can hit the ground running, and he has credentials and has put in a letter of request. Today we're going to honor that letter of request."

Aykroyd fell in love with Hinds County while shooting James Brown biopic "Get On Up" in the area. In the film he plays Brown's manager.
