David S. Goyer Rumored to Be Developing 'Superman' Prequel TV Series

A new TV series about the Man of Steel could be on its way to television very soon. But before fans dismiss it as a reboot of "Smallville," rumor has it that the new series will explore life on Krypton, before the superhero was born—basically, a Superman series without Superman himself.

According to Bleeding Cool, Warner Bros. has hired David S. Goyer to develop the TV series. Goyer has worked on the screenplay for the "Dark Knight' trilogy and he also wrote the script for the Superman reboot "Man of Steel." Currently, he heads NBC's newest supernatural thriller "Constantine" as its show runner.

Though it has been speculated that a Superman series without its main hero could be a disastrous move, the success of "Gotham" has proven that having a pre-teen Bruce Wayne on the sidelines instead of making him the focus of the story will work, provided that there are a lot of interesting characters to add color to the show. In the case of the Superman prequel, rumored to be titled "Krypton," there are a lot of possibilities that Goyer can explore based around Superman's father, Jor-el, and other family members and friends.

Details about "Krypton" are few and unclear as of the moment, and it is uncertain as to which network it will air on. Screenrant speculates that it could be headed to CBS as "Supergirl," which follows the adventures of Superman's cousin Kara Zor-el, is being developed by the network as of the moment. The website reports that it is highly possible that the two shows could be connected, just like what The CW has done with "Arrow" and its newest series "The Flash."
