Davy Jones Dies at 66 (VIDEO)

Davy Jones of The Monkees has died of a heart attack at age 66 on Wednesday.

The singer died in Martin County, Fla., according to an official from the medical examiner's office in the state. Martin Memorial Hospital reported the death to TMZ.

Jones leaves behind his wife Jessica as well as four children from different marriages.

The English singer was a part of The Monkees alongside Americans Micky Dolenz, Michael Nesmith, and Peter Tork. The pop rock group assembled in Los Angeles in 1966.

The Monkees were best known for her their classic hits "Last Train to Clakrsville," "(I'm Not Your) Steppin' Stone," "Pleasant Valley Sunday," and "Daydream Believer."

Their albums and singles have solve over 65 million copies worldwide, and the hits are still heard on pop and oldies radio stations.

The death of Jones comes as a surprise, as the singer just performed in Oklahoma Feb. 19, as well as in New York City the day before, and appeared healthy.

In the past, Jones made a cameo appearance on "The Brady Bunch" as himself. His charisma and musical talent was celebrated as an important element of The Monkees.

Many fans are mourning the loss of Jones on Twitter Wednesday.

"RIP my friend, Davy Jones," wrote Ralph. "He was always kind and supportive, and we shared so many laughs. I'm truly heartbroken."

Twitter user Maureen posted, "Oh no! Davy Jones has passed away. I was a crazed Monkees fan as a kid. So sorry to hear this."

"Very sad to hear that Davy Jones has boarded his last train to Clarksville," wrote Fry using the title of The Monkees' famed song.

The Twitter account for "The Today Show" posted, "A little bit of my youth just died."
