New "X-Factor" judge Demi Lovato recently died her hair a lighter shade of blonde, but apparently the look wasn't edgy enough, so the former Disney star decided to add a pop of color to spice things up.

There may be a new kind of competitive edge on the "X-Factor" but this time, not between the contestants. Instead, it appears that there may be a slight competition between Britney Spears and Demi Lovato, both new "X-Factor" judges who are appearing on television after long career hiatuses.

Both stars appeared on the red carpet following an "X-Factor" episode. Lovato appeared to take an edge up on Spears in a black dress with a sheer top and funky tasseled, two-tone grey overcoat. The star paired the look with a black mani-pedi and black peep toe pumps. For an added statement, the star died the tips of her recently lightened hair pink.

Britney Spears was photographed next to Lovato wearing a short gold dress with a French manicure and golden peep toe pumps. While Spears is 11 years older than 19 year-old Demi Lovato, both stars got their start on Disney and both have a history of mental issues. Many speculations have surrounded the question of whether either star would be ready to handle a role on "X-Factor."

Spears appeared to be the first one targeted by media for her weaknesses, when one of the stars first debuts on the show was followed by a picture of the pop-star with bloodied fingernails after they had been chewed down out of nerves. Spears was also later accused of walking out on the show during a judging session. Simon Cowell however, defended Spear's position.

"She's working out great. All these reports that we've fallen out are nonsense. She's doing a great job," Simon Cowell said recently, according to Daily Mail. "I'm the one who's unstable!"
