'Destiny' News: 'Large Expansion' Coming to 'Destiny' In 2016, 'Destiny 2' Not Happening Til 2017

Rumors about a sequel to the sci-fi shooter "Destiny" coming in 2016 have been put to rest by an official announcement from publisher Activision and developer Bungie that "Destiny 2" is not happening until 2017. A report in Kotaku cited a press release by Activision saying that it "expects to bring a large new expansion to 'Destiny' in 2016 and to release a full game sequel in 2017."

Kotaku had earlier reported that developer Bungie had decided to delay the release of the sequel, which they made early this year. Despite this, rumors still circulated that a 2016 release was possible. The main reason for the delay, the report speculated, may be the fact that the developer already has its hands full with creating new content for "Destiny," which its fans and players have been hankering for.

Details of the "large new expansion" are nil including when in 2016 it will be arriving. Before the end of 2015, Bungie did promise another update in Spring 2016 which the report said will bring "a significant Light increase," new gear to collect, as well as new challenges for the player-vs.-environment mode.

In the meantime, "Destiny's" Valentine's Day event is currently ongoing, according to an IGN report. Called the Crimson Days event, it brings with it new rewards and bounties, as well as a new limited time game mode called Crimson Doubles and a new quest from Lord Shaxx.

Crimson Doubles is a 2v2 elimination mode featuring only Fireteams, who need to win five rounds to earn a victory. This mode will be available from February 9 to February 16. The new game mode also brings with it the Broken Heart buff which gets activated when one's partner is taken down, and it will last until one is able to revive the downed partner, or until the round is up, or until the player is downed himself. This buff gives players the ability to do faster draws and to recover quickly from dealt damage.

When players complete the new quest of Lord Shaxx, they will get a new Crimson Days emblem. Among the rewards in Crimson Doubles include "new Shaders and new Ghost Shells that can drop at up to 320 Light."
