Dexter Season 8 Episode 4 'Scar Tissue' Recap: 'You Will Always Choose Dexter,' Says Dr. Vogel

In the fourth episode of the final season of Showtime's hit drama "Dexter," characters experienced some big changes, and Deb's aggression came to a head. Read on to find out what happened on last night's episode, entitled "Scar Tissue," but be wary of spoilers.

It's fair to say that Dexter's sister Deb has put up with a lot at the hands of her brother. While she's handled it with varying degrees of emotion and aggression, that all came to a head in last night's episode. In a spectacular crash scene, Deb causes a car accident that nearly kills them both.

Before the crash, Deb talks to Dr. Vogel about her guilt over not shooting Dexter when she had the chance. Dr. Vogel tells her there was no way Deb could ever bring herself to kill her brother. This perhaps fanned the flames and caused Deb to act.

"You desperately want to believe that if you had just shot Dexter then you wouldn't have to face the hard fact that if you had to do it all over again you'd still choose him because in your heart you know you will always choose Dexter," Dr. Vogel said.

Deb caused the crash because, as Dexter drove down the road, he confessed that their father killed himself because he was guilty about Dexter and the life Dexter led. In a flash of anger, Deb grabbed the wheel, sending the car careening into a lake.

But it appears the anger wore off, and Dr. Vogel was right; Deb cannot kill Dexter.

Rescue workers pulled Deb, generally unharmed, from the lake. She then re-entered and pulled her brother to safety.
