'Doctor Who' Season 8 2013 50th Anniversary: Show Partners With Heathrow Airport

To mark the 50th anniversary of the BBC cult favorite "Doctor Who," the show has teamed up with Heathrow Airport in London to provide passengers with an interactive experience.

Starting today, Tuesday July 16, travelers in Heathrow airport will be able to engage with a variety of "Doctor Who"-themed exhibits and activities. BBC put out a press release detailing what the experience will include.

There will be "appearances form the famous Cyhermen, TARDIS, photobooths, genuine props and memorabilia, and augmented reality experiences from Britain's best loved drama series," the press release said.

The Operations Director of Heathrow's Terminal 5, Susan Goldsmith, spoke about the "Doctor Who" installation in the airport.

"I am delighted that Heathrow has been chosen to host this much-loved British iconic series. With visitors from over 180 destinations worldwide, as the UK's only hub airport, Heathrow offers a fantastic opportunity to bring the Doctor Who experience to an international audience this summer," Goldsmith said.

It is not just representatives of the airport who are looking forward to the installation; BBC and "Doctor Who" producers are more than pleased.

Chief Brands Officer for BBC Worldwide Amanda Hill discussed the installation as a way to celebrate international fans.

"In its 50th Anniversary year we want to include fans around the World in our Doctor Who celebrations and this partnership with Heathrow is a fantastic way of capturing the attention of people from across the globe," Hill said in the press release.

"Doctor Who" showrunner Steven Moffat is also extremely pleased with the potential of the show's installation at the Heathrow Airport.

"We are delighted to announce another extension to Heathrow's world-beating facilities -- all of space and time in a stylish blue box, complete with phone. Heathrow with time travel -- nobody need ever be late again," he said.
