Dolly Parton Says American Morale Has Been Diluted

Actress and Country music legend Dolly Parton told FOX, the American morale has been diluted since the worsening of the economy.

Parton, who returns to the silver screen this Friday with the Gospel film “Joyful Noise,” said she hopes the new film will lift people’s spirits.

“The film is uplifting and I want people to go away feeling better than they did when they got here, because times are hard right now. Everybody's been feeling a little scared and a little down, and the economy has been bad and people don't know what to think. We just seem to have lost all our morals and principles and values these days,” the singer/actress told FOX411’s Pop Tarts column at the “Joyful Noise” Hollywood premiere on Monday.

Parton, 65, will star opposite Oscar nominee Queen Latifah in the comedy about a small town church choir in Georgia and its journey to uplift their community through a gospel competition.

“People are looking for something a little more stable; people are feeling like they need to get closer to God. So the movie has got a lot of heart, a lot of soul. It's about community, it's about pulling together and it's about believing in something bigger and better than you," Parton told FOX.

The “Steel Magnolias” star credits the film with strengthening her relationship with God.

“I always ask God to work through me, and let me be a light of some kind and help in this world, so I always pray for that and I always want to do good,” Parton told FOX at the premiere. “We’re all just a bunch of sinners, but we do the best we can. He works through people in His own way, and I always ask him to let me be a blessing to people.”

“I believe those scriptures and I believe that through God all things are possible. Christ strengthens me, I remember all those things and I use them. I lean on that,” Parton added.

Parton has won eight Grammy Awards, and received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2011 Grammys. She has also been nominated for two Academy Awards and a Tony Award.

Parton told FOX she waited for nearly 20 years for a film as inspirational as her upcoming one.

“The last movie I did was more than eighteen years ago, but I haven’t had anything else good come along. I just prayed that I would have something good to do, and this came at a good time.”
