Toie Animation, the original studio responsible for the series' production, is also coming back to work on the new TV series. The Verge report was able to get the reaction of the voice actress who has long been providing the voice of the lead character, Goku. Masako Nozawa said "it is fantastic that the long-awaited 'Dragon Ball Super' will finally begin. I hope that this series will last a long time and have the same impact around the world as its predecessor."

The manga series, aside from animated TV series, has spawned 19 animated feature films and TV specials, also made by Toie Animation. The most recent film that was made is "Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F'," which was recently released in Japan, with a planned international release coming soon.

Other companies have also created video games based on the series.

The original series follows the story of Goku, from childhood to adulthood as he trains in martial arts and searches the world for seven orbs called the Dragon Balls. If all seven orbs are gathered, one can summon a wish-granting dragon. Throughout his journey, he meets new friends and fights villains who are also after the Dragon Balls.
