'Dragon Ball Super' Episodes 80, 81 Spoilers: Upcoming Tournament of Power Is More Than Just a Sporting Event

The cosmos has become too crowded and the two Zen-Ohs believe that it's time for a little maintenance work to be done. It turns out that this is the real purpose behind the upcoming Tournament of Power.

Episode 80 featured this revelation to the horrified awe of everyone in the pre-tournament match. The tournament will only be participated in by the weaker universes, which will in turn be erased from existence once they lose. Some universes have been exempted from participating due to their average mortal level being high enough to be preserved.

But the most shocking revelation came when the Great Priest told Universes 7 and 9 that they were at the very bottom of the barrel, and that even the Gods of each losing universe will also be annihilated, leaving only the angels in the safe zone.

The ongoing Zen Exhibition Match does not yet count, but the fact that Goku's Team is already finding it hard to match their strengths against the weakest universe, does not really make for a promising fate in the actual tournament.

After Gohan's battle ended in a draw, it is now time for Goku to step on the stage and show everyone what a strong fighter from Universe 7 is really made of. Episode 81 titled "Bergamo the Crusher vs Son Goku! Which One Wields the Limitless Power?!" will pit the strongest fighters from the participating universes against each other.

The official trailer for the episode hints at another intense battle with some elements of humor as Goku tries to match and exceed the very limits of Bergamo's strength. Goku has always been a confident fighter coming into every battle. Will he be able to hold on to his usual disposition, or will Bergamo be strong enough to cut Goku down to size?

"Dragon Ball Super" episode 81 airs on Sunday, March 5, at 9 a.m. JST on Fuji TV.
