Drew Barrymore and Will Kopelman Call It Quits

Some good things never last, as Drew Barrymore and Will Kopelman would prove. After being married for three years, the couple called it quits. They made a joint statement to People regarding their decision to divorce.

The two declared in their announcement, "Sadly our family is separating legally, although we do not feel this takes away from us being a family. Divorce might make one feel like a failure, but eventually you start to find grace in the idea that life goes on."

The two share a passion for their two girls, Olive, who is three, and Frankie, one, and declare them their "universe" and "first priority."

The actress made an admission in an interview with InStyle, "It was never really love at first sight."

Barrymore shared that Kopelman's family set up was something she never had and spoke of her great admiration for her art-consultant husband and how he was always the great father to their children.

It was known from a source that the idea of a separation was not a recent one. The source has told ET that the idea has been considered since October of last year. Reports have it that they were last seen in public as a couple in January when they took their elder daughter to Studio City, California.

But recent sightings of the couple have been in the absence of the significant other. Kopelman was spotted in March with the younger daughter Frankie, while Barrymore was spied on Beverly Hills on Thursday.

At the three-year mark of their marriage, Barrymore posted her greetings for Kopelman.

"Happy anniversary Mr. Kopelman, cheers to you! I love you and I love our daughters!!!!!!! #threeyears"

The source also told ET that the 41-year-old actress was really "bummed" that the marriage did not work out and that the couple really did try to make the marriage work. But they had both decided the split was the best decision, although Barrymore had a close relationship with Kopelman's family---his sister Jill Kargman and parents, Arie and Coco.

According to the source, "[Will's family] became her own. I think it filled the void in her life of not having [a family] of her own. At the end, I think she felt worst about leaving them, more so than Will."

The source also added that Barrymore made the effort to have a normal family life for her two children, making sure they had one. Barrymore and Kopelman may decide to keep their Upper East Side apartment for the sake of their daughter Olive who schools in New York, although she is also enrolled in Los Angeles at the same time.
