'Duck Dynasty's' Alan Robertson: 'Prayer Encourages Positive Thinking'

In celebration of the annual National Day of Prayer, the Rev. Alan Robertson of the A&E reality show "Duck Dynasty" told a crowd in West Monroe, La. that "prayer is the most positive thing you can do," adding that he believes prayer "encourages positive thinking."

Robertson, who joined the "Duck Dynasty" cast for season 4, made his comments at a National Day of Prayer breakfast organized by the Community Prayer Partners and held at the West Monroe Convention Center. The former pastor spoke alongside the Rev. Dale Walker, pastor of Pine Grove Church, who organized the event.

"In a time when we have great concerns about our culture and country, prayer is the most positive thing we can do," Robertson told the crowd of over 300, as reported by The News Star. "An event like this reminds us that even if culture goes south, we have something bigger for which to look forward. It encourages people to think positively."

Robertson, the only brother in his family to have a shaved face, previously pastored at White's Ferry Road Church of Christ before choosing to join his family on their A&E reality show "Duck Dynasty." Now, the eldest son of Phil and Miss Kay oversees public relations at the family's Duck Commander duck call warehouse.

The former pastor previously told the New York Post in 2013 that he chose to switch from his religious job to starring on a reality television show because he believed being on camera would allow him to spread the Word of God to more people.

"What I do for our church – you see, it's a pretty good-sized church – impacts a lot of people, but because of my association with the show, I'll get to minister to a lot more people," he said. "Any person that's an evangelist, that's what you want to do, so I had to give this up for something possibly bigger."

The prayer breakfast event that took place in West Monroe on Thursday is just one of the many observances marking the annual National Day of Prayer in the U.S. Students across the country gathered at their schools' flagpoles this morning before classes to pray, and President Barack Obama also released a statement saying, in part: "One of our Nation's great strengths is the freedom we hold dear, including the freedom to exercise our faiths freely. For many Americans, prayer is an essential act of worship and a daily discipline."
