Earthquakes Today: Mexico, Chile, China and Japan Get Struck By Quakes

A 6.5 magnitude earthquake hit Mexico on Tuesday, making it the largest of a number of quakes to hit the country today.

Although damage appeared to be minimal with no reports of injuries at press time, the U.S. Geological Survey reported that the quake traveled 3.1 miles deep.

The USGS reported that the quake hit the Revilla Gigedo Islands Region at 5:32 a.m. The quake occurred in a location 141 miles northeast of Socorro Island, Mexico, and 206 miles Southeast of Cabo San Lucas in Baja Calif.

An aftershock shook the Revilla Gigedo Islands Region with a magnitude of 4.2 at 6:32 a.m.

However, this Mexican region was not the only place to be shaken up by an earthquake on Tuesday.

A 5.5 magnitude earthquake struck Indonesia on Tuesday as well, USGS reported. The quake hit the Sulawesi, Indonesia region spanning 87.2 miles.

North Xinjiang, China was struck by a 5.4 magnitude quake on the same day. The quake occurred at 8:21 a.m. and had a depth of 17.3 miles.

Another quake struck the country on Tuesday, in Gansu. The 5.1 magnitude natural disaster took place 90 miles West of Tianshui, Gansu with a depth of 10.6 miles.

In Japan, near the east coast of Honshu, a 5.0 magnitude earthquake took place at 1:21 a.m. The quake had a depth of 13.1 miles and struck a little over 100 miles from Tokyo.

Various parts of Chile were also struck on the same day. Antofagasta, Chile was struck with a 5.1 magnitude quake on Tuesday with a depth of 49.2 miles.

The Offshore Maule region of Chile also suffered an earthquake, with a magnitude of 4.7 spanning a depth of 12.7 miles.
