Easter Friday, Easter Monday Dates 2017: Events for Easter Weekend, Easter Day on April 16

Every year, Christians around the world celebrate Easter. This ancient tradition has been around to commemorate the final days of Jesus as a mortal including His death, resurrection and the events that led to His crucifixion.

Easter is not called a "moveable feast" for no reason. While Easter is celebrated every year, its date varies.

In 325 A.D., Catholic bishops agreed that Easter Day must fall on a Sunday. In determining which particular Sunday Easter Day should be celebrated, the bishops decided that it must be on the first Sunday following a full moon at Passover, a Jewish festival done in commemoration of the liberation of the Jews from slavery in Egypt. This day was the same time as the Last Supper.

However, the bishops eventually realized that the full moon does not fall on the same days considering the different time zones. Hence, they finally agreed that the date of the Easter Day celebration would be the 14th day of the lunar month.

This year, Good Friday falls on April 14, Easter Sunday falls on April 16 and Easter Monday falls on April 17.

Aside from the Christmas season, Easter is one of the most anticipated holidays every year. Since it falls during summertime, it is usually characterized by drier conditions and mild temperatures that make it perfect for family getaways. Since hotels and resorts usually get fully-booked during this season, people who want to take advantage of Easter to put their feet up book their flights and plan their getaways months before it arrives.

Among the activities that families love to do during Easter are having picnics and strolling in the woods, enjoying some drinks in a beer garden, having special meals with family and friends, and going to beaches to soak up the sun.
