Ebola Virus Scare in Ohio – Woman's Result Negative
Reports Tuesday said about a person from Columbus, Ohio tested for the Ebola virus after their return from West Africa where an outbreak had already killed more than 900 people. However, the woman later showed negative results from the test.
This report was confirmed by the Columbus Public Health after receiving the test results from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta. The agency conducted the examination through the Ohio Department of Health.
The 46-year-old woman, whose identity hasn't yet been disclosed, recently visited a West African country that has been stricken by the pandemic, according to WBNS-TV. Upon her return to the U.S. soil, she showed symptoms of illness.
Health officials from Columbus did not reveal any specifics as to where the patient was tested to prevent panic from the public.
Furthermore, personnel from several medical centers in Central Ohio stated that the illness is not that easily spread, except if there's a direct physical contact.
"It's direct contact, so just being on the same plane as somebody does not put you at high risk. Sitting next to them and them rubbing against you might put you at high risk," Dr. Andrew Thomas of OSU Wexner Medical Center said.
In the meantime, recent update of the outbreak pointed out an American aid worker who was been diagnosed positive with Ebola in Africa arrived back in the country earlier this week.
Nancy Writebol, age 59 years old, traveled in an aircraft that was equipped with disease-containing equipment.Together with Dr. Kent Brantly, Writebol will be isolated and be treated with an experimental vaccine that has yet to be tested on humans.
