Elderly Pastor Shot While Asleep in Home

A Floridian Pastor remains in critical condition after her home was pelted by gunfire in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Annie Wimberly, a mother of eight and a grandmother of 24, was asleep with eight other people when an unidentified gunman fired multiple rounds into her Miami-Dade lime green home at 3:59 a.m.

According to Miami CBS Local, three children and five adults were present when the rounds were fired.

“The subject approached the house and started shooting," Miami-Dade Javier Baez told the Miami Herald.

"It appears that a high powered rifle was used,” he added.

According to the HuffPost Miami, Wimberly was struck twice from bullets coming from a high-powered rifle, possibly an AK47. The pastor of Friendly Temple Holiness Church was taken to the Jackson Memorial Hospital where she remains in critical, but stable, condition surrounded by her relatives.

This is the second attack on Wimberly’s house in one month.

Police have notified media outlets that this is an ongoing investigation, and they have yet to announce the shooter’s identity or a motive for the shooting.

According to WSVN 7 News, Wimberly underwent surgery Tuesday morning, during which doctors removed the victim’s kidney. Wimberly’s liver and a main heart artery are also damaged.

“I don’t know why they did it […] but they need to get them off the street,” Wimberly’s daughter, Gena Wiggins, told WSVN 7 News.

“My sister is a child of God,” Wimberly’s sister, Vanilla Edward, told the Miami Herald.

 “You can’t shoot a child of God. This is a storm. You got to go through the storm,” she added.
