'Elementary' Season 4 Cast News, Update: 'Sleepy Hollow' Alum John Noble Joins Crime Drama

The upcoming fourth season of the hit crime TV drama series "Elementary" is reported to be adding a new member to its cast.

A report from TV Line indicated that "Fringe" and "Sleepy Hollow" alum John Noble will be coming over to the TV adaptation of the sleuth drama as a series regular. He will take on the role of Sherlock's (Jonny Lee Miller) estranged father.

His character has often been referenced since the inception of the show but has never been given a glimpse. If fans could recall, he was the one responsible for putting Sherlock in the rehab program as well as getting Lucy Liu's character (Watson) as his personal "sober companion" who later turned to be his son's investigative partner and friend.

According to the report, the season 4 premiere will see the elder and wealthy Mr. Holmes arriving in New York City to deal with the aftermath of Sherlock's recent relapse.

Show creator Robert Doherty recently spoke with the press about Noble's participation in the scripted program.

"We could not be more delighted to have John Noble taking on such an important role," Doherty told Variety. "We've enjoyed his work for many years now — especially his tremendous run on 'Fringe' — and cannot wait to see him opposite Jonny and Lucy. It's going to be an exciting season."

Aside from "Sleepy Hollow" and "Fringe," Noble's acting portfolio also includes those in the big screen side. He was known for playing the character Denethor in "Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers" and also in "The Return of the King."

"Elementary" Season 4 is slated to kick off on CBS this fall.
