'Elementary' Season 4 Spoilers, Plot News: Rob Doherty Says Father-Son Reunion Will Have 'Friction'

Season 3 of CBS' hit TV drama series "Elementary" ended with Sherlock's (Jonny Lee Miller) dad, Morland (John Noble), on his way to New York City after he finds out that his son has once again succumbed to his addiction.

It is, however, a given fact for those who avidly followed the show that Morland isn't actually a good father to his son. Having him at Brownstone won't actually give thrills to the sleuth.

"Once he arrives, Sherlock does not appreciate the attention or the distraction that his dad represents," executive producer Rob Doherty told Entertainment Weekly. "For him, it's too little too late. This is a father and a son with a very complicated history. I'd say for at least a couple decades, Sherlock's father has been out of sight, out of mind. This is going to be a big adjustment for Sherlock to have dad nearby."

In a follow up interview, the showrunner added that it won't only be Sherlock who is unhappy for Morland's coming.

"When Joan [Lucy Lui] does meet dad, there will be some friction," Doherty said. "It was actually Morland who brought Joan into Sherlock's life."

"When Morland arrives and makes a genuine and surprising attempt to help Sherlock, Sherlock has to rethink his relationship with his dad. [But] as the season progresses, we're going to see that Joan is worried that dad is a little more like the guy Sherlock has described versus the guy he seems to be now. She'll be keeping a careful eye on him," he continued.

"Elementary" Season 4 is slated to premiere Nov. 5 on CBS.
