'Elementary' season 4 spoilers: Introduces Sherlock's father

Last season, the hit series "Elementary" ended when Sherlock (Jonny Lee Miller) succumbed to his addiction and fell off the wagon after beating Oscar, the heroin addict who kidnapped Alfredo (Ato Essandoh), who is the narcotics anonymous sponsor of Sherlock. The show ended with Joan Watson (Lucy Liu) telling Sherlock that his father is on his way to New York.

In the upcoming season, fans will get to meet Sherlock's mysterious father. He is the person who checked Sherlock into a rehab facility before and is also the one who brought Joan Watson into Sherlock's life as a sober companion. Sherlock's father has merely been referenced in previous seasons.

Actor John Noble will play the pivotal role and will come to New York to help his son get back on track after discovering that his son's addiction has resurfaced once more. "Sherlock's dad, like Sherlock, is a complicated man," said series creator and executive producer Rob Doherty. He will be joining the show as a series regular this season.

Actress Shohreh Aghdashloo will guest star in the new season. She will play Donya Esfandiari, an international hotel mogul who will be negotiating with Sherlock's father, Morland, who is a consultant. Meanwhile, actor Jeremy Bobb will also guest star in the upcoming season. Bobb will play FBI Agent Gary Burke, an agent that Sherlock and Joan auditioned for as they look for work outside of the department.

The title of the first episode is "Flight Risk." It is all about the father and son and their very complicated relationship. The premiere episode will pick right where the previous season left off. The arrival of Sherlock's father will cause problems for Sherlock, as the latter is not appreciative of the help and claims that his father does not love him at all since he was absent for most of his life. Sherlock claims that his father has only shown up because of his familial obligation.

In the new season, fans will see Joan and Sherlock become closer, as the latter will find himself leaning on the former as his father suddenly appears and throws his life out of whack.

Elementary will return Thursday, Nov. 5, at 10 p.m. ET on CBS.
