'Empire' Season 2 News, Spoilers: Stars, EP Reveal Battle Between Lucious And Sons; Someone From Lucious's Past Coming Back?

Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard) will go head-to-head against his three sons in the battle for Empire Entertainment, the cast and crew of Fox's popular musical drama "Empire" have revealed.

The back half of "Empire" season 2 will reportedly find the Lyon patriarch, who was booted out of his seat at the Empire board in the show's midseason finale, doing whatever it takes to regain control of his hip hop empire.

Based on the new trailer for the midseason premiere, the series will pick up right where season 2 took a pause in December. As fans can recall, the midseason finale, titled "Et Tu, Brute?" saw Lucious losing control of Empire, Rhonda (Caitlin Doubleday) taking a possibly fatal tumble, and Hakeem (Bryshere Y. Grey) betraying his father.

According to the "Empire" stars, the aftermath of Hakeem's betrayal will be one of the main conflicts in the second half of season 2. "It's the battle of Lucious against his sons," Grey told E! News. "It's intense. It's the family. Without family, there's no Empire."

It also appears that the Lyons' power struggle could take some extreme twists and turns in season 2. "The Lyons will do anything to get control of their company," executive producer Brian Grazer told E! during Friday's PaleyFest in Los Angeles.

In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Jussie Smollett, who plays Jamal Lyon, also spoke about the show's upcoming return and hinted at what's ahead for his onscreen clan. "… What we're going to see in these last episodes of of the second season, is Lucious and Cookie coming together to try to fix their family, because we are so broken," he said.

Meanwhile, Gabourey Sidibe, who plays Becky Williams, hinted at a major storyline for Lucious, telling E!, "While Lucious is making his moves and terrifying people all over the place—I can't even wait!—somebody from his past is going to come back and for the first time you're going to see Lucious scared."

"Empire" returns for the second half of season 2 on Wednesday, March 30, at 9 p.m. ET on Fox.
