The ministry of Empty Hands Fellowship will hold its fifth annual event on Sept. 26 in Franklin, Tenn. Event coordinator David Asch says the emphasis will be on racial diversity and Christian unity.
We just come together [as different churches] and realize we are multiple races and denominations, Asch said.
With the theme 1st Century Unity for the 21st Century, the Gathering will focus on the narration of the life of John Newton, writer of the universally popular hymn Amazing Grace.
The narration will be accompanied by music, Hardeman, program coordinator, said. First, there will be bagpipes. Then, behind the narrator, there will be a native American flute, an oboe and a harmonica. Different singers will also do the verses in different styles. The intention is to paint a picture in music of churches coming together because of Gods grace.
Following the choir, there will be personal testimonies from those involved with Empty Hands Fellowship.
