Eydie Gorme Death: Singer Died in Las Vegas at 84

Singer and performer Eydie Gorme passed away on Saturday, Aug. 10 in Las Vegas.

Her spokesman Howard Bragman released a statement about the circumstances srruonding her death.

"Legendary singer and performer Eydie Gorme passed away peacefully today at Sunrise Hospital following a brief illness. She was surrounded by her husband, son and other loved ones at the time of her death," the statement read.

Gorme was best known for her duo-performance with her husband Stephen Lawrence.

Her husband released a statement after Gorme's death expressing his grief and praising his late wife's musical talents.

"Eydie has been my partner on stage and in life for more than 55 years. I fell in love with her the moment I saw her and even more the first time I heard her sing. While my personal loss is unimaginable, the world has lost one of the greatest pop vocalists of all time," Lawrence said in his statement.

In addition to her performance with her husband, Gorme also excelled in her solo work. Her most famous solo hit was "Blame it on the Bossa Nova," which came out in 1963.

She had one other single hit in 1964, which was the Spanish language song "Amor." Amoung Gorme's many talents was the fact that she was bilingual, and "Amor" was a huge hit in the Latin community.

Eydie Gorme was 84 when she died this past weekend. She is survived by her husband Stephen Lawrence, hers on David who works as a composer, and her granddaughter. Gorme had one other son, Michael, who died of heart failure in 1986, according to USA Today.
