Are third party candidates spoilers when it comes to U.S. presidential elections or are the real culprits in preventing the best man from taking the office in the White House the Republican and Democratic parties?

That’s the question documentary filmmaker James Jaeger tries to answer in his newest movie, “SPOiLER – How a Third Political Party Could Win.”

In the film produced by Matrixx Productions and available on DVD, Jaeger said he explores the underlying causes of the welfare-warfare state ushered in by the Democratic and Republican parties over the past 98 years as a result of both parties failing to follow the moral principles in the Bible.

Jaeger enlisted the expertise of former presidential candidates running as nominees from third political parties, including Pat Buchanan and Chuck Baldwin. Also, seen in the 119-minute film is theologian Peter Lillback.

“We wanted the perspective of a presidential candidate and how tough it is to get in there,” Jaeger told The Christian Post. “The film is about the idea … that the Republicans and the Democrats are just simply not following the Constitution as well as they could be.”

Jaeger said that Baldwin and Lillback were filmed in the documentary to bring a perspective that the U.S. framers of the Constitution used the Bible to “inform them.”

“A main piece of the film is that from 1913 to present we got off the tracks. We went into the progressive era where we have literally lost our Christian heritage,” Jaeger said. “Our traditional values have been assaulted for the last 98 years and we have created a wayward population.”

Baldwin is the founding pastor of Crossroad Baptist Church in Pensacola, Fla., and has since moved to Montana where he started a Christian outreach called Liberty Fellowship. He was the presidential nominee of the Constitution Party during the 2008 U.S. election and had previously been its nominee for vice president in 2004.

The case is made during the movie that televised presidential debates are orchestrated by the Democrats and Republicans, and with the help of the media, are able to squeeze out third party candidates.

“Third parties by nature do not have a platform on the national level,” Baldwin says in the film. “This is directly due to the influence of the two major parties.”

Political experts in the film also make the argument that both parties are responsible for government overspending.

“Both the Republicans and the Democrats are leading us down the road towards totalitarianism,” Baldwin said. “They may be coming at it from slightly different angles, but the result is the same.”

“The Democrats often use that general welfare clause to justify all the social spending and welfare spending. The GOP, their rubric is protecting us. Since 9/11 everything (all spending and law) is for our protection,” he said.

The film is Jaeger’s fifth documentary, much of the content being about the U.S. government’s out of control spending and increasing power over the lives of citizens.

“Both entrenched parties have grown the government way beyond that envisioned by the framers, and worse, they have placed the State in competition with the Church as the ‘author of all charity’ and the ‘source of God-given, inalienable rights,’” Jaeger states.

“Not only that, multinational corporations have hijacked Congress leading to laws that have outsourced American industry, undermined the middle class and eroded the family unit,” he adds. “SPOiLER lays out a strategy whereby a new, or existing, third political party could defeat the DemoPublicans and reinstate Constitutional principles based on traditional Christian values.”
