'Final Fantasy IX' on iOS and Android Now Available

In a surprise move, developer and publisher Square Enix released its popular title "Final Fantasy IX" on iOS and Android. The game became available to mobile devices on Tuesday, Feb. 9.

The launch comes less than two months after Square Enix announced the revamped title would be launching to mobile devices this year. The game initially launched to the Sony PlayStation in 2000.

The new "Final Fantasy IX" for mobile comes with new achievements, high-definition movies and character modes, autosave, and seven game boosters, which act like cheats in the game. The boosters include a high speed or fast-forward button and a "no random encounter" mode. There's also a booster that allows a character to deliver 9,999 damage per hit. Through the new boosters, Square Enix hopes to make the game more playable for casual gamers.

Characters can also start learning new abilities by equipping items. Once they've fully mastered those, however, the abilities can be used even without equipping items.

Speaking of items, players can combine two items or equipment to make better, stronger items through a the feature called Synthesis.

There's also a Trance mode that unlocks powerful new skills. To activate the Trance mode, players need to fill up the Trance gauge by taking hits in battle.

For a bit of distraction from the main game, "Final Fantasy IX" on iOS and Android also comes with mini games such as "Chocobo Hot and Cold," "Jump Rope," and "Tetra Master." These mini games will earn players special item rewards.

Those interested can download the game from iTunes and Google Play store. "Final Fantasy" on iOS and Android is currently available to download for the discounted price of $16.99. The promo runs until Feb. 21, after which fans can expect a 20 percent increase in price. This relatively high price for a mobile game allows players to enjoy the game for no additional fees or in-app purchases.
