'Final Fantasy VII' PS4 Release Date: Exclusive Title Coming 2015

Square Enix producer Shinji Hashimoto announced at the keynote speech held at the recent PlayStation Experience 2014 in Las Vegas that the "Final Fantasy VII" is set to be released exclusively to the PlayStation 4 come spring of 2015.

The PS4 version of "Final Fantasy VII" follows the game's release to PCs several years ago and is not an HD remake or remastered version of the game, rather the console-friendly version will have upscale graphics to fit the new hardware but keep its original design.

However, fans did not seem quite as enthusiastic when the official trailer was unveiled by Square Enix at the event.

Hashimoto's announcement was initially received warmly at the event, but when the trailer was released, the excitement of the audience seemed to lessen upon seeing the blocky graphics of the original 1997 version of the game. The official trailer has also been receiving thousands of thumbs down from the fans.

Square Enix could hardly be blamed though as they have stated numerous times that not only would a remastered version be difficult to make, but it would also be extremely costly.

Yoshinori Kitase has explained previously that the process would be difficult. The creators and designers would need to find a way to balance the improvements of the game with the old school elements that are familiar to the fans. He also explained that it would be a costly undertaking and rebuilding the game would end up taking more time than "Final Fantasy 13," which already took them five years to create.

"I can honestly tell you I would love to do that," he said. "But you must believe me when I saw it would take a lot to happen."

While the rest of the "Final Fantasy VII" PS4 edition remains largely similar to the original version, some of the updates to the will include Trophies for the player to win, as well as a Character Booster to boost the magic points, hit points or money.
