'Finding Dory' News: Plot Details Revealed, Film to Premiere in 2016

Fans have been waiting for the sequel to "Finding Nemo" since it came out in 2003, and now, more details have come up for the follow up to the hit Pixar film.

Pixar president Jim Morris recently spoke at the Comic-Con Experience in Brazil and shared plot details and casting for "Finding Dory." Set several months after Marlin, Nemo, and Dory all live together in the same reed, Dory accompanies Nemo on a school field trip, and memories of her past and her family are triggered. They will travel to California to find Dory's parents, and Morris said that the majority of the film will take place at the Marine Biology Institute of California, which is apparently where Dory was born and raised before she was released into the wild.

Ellen DeGeneres and Albert Brooks will return to voice Dory and Marlin respectively. Dory's father, Charlie, will be voiced by Eugene Levy, and Dory's mother will be voiced by Diane Keaton. Ty Burrell has also been cast as a Beluga whale named Bailey. According to Slash Film, "The Wire" alums Idris Elba and Dominic West are rumored to be joining the animated film in some capacity.

DeGeneres previously announced the sequel on Twitter, confirming everyone's hopes with a captioned Instagram photo that there would be a follow-up to the Oscar winning film.

"I'm excited that it's finally happening," she said to her audience on the "Ellen" show. "I read the script and it's fantastic, it's hilarious, it's warm, it's everything that you want it to be."

"Finding Dory" is slated to premiere on June 17, 2016.
