Floyd Mayweather News: 'Money May' Declares Intent to Transition to Mixed Martial Arts Promotion Anew

Retired undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. once again expressed his intent to try his hand at mixed martial arts promotion.

Being the brainchild of Mayweather Promotions, "Money Mayweather" has so far shown a generous amount of success as a boxing promoter, handling the likes of Ashley Theophane, Ishe Smith, and Mickey Bey Jr., among others.

As far back as 2014, Floyd Jr. already hinted about handling mixed martial arts fighters as well. In an interview with Fight Hype in October of that same year, Mayweather called on MMA fighters to jump ship and sign up with him, if they want 'fair treatment'.

"If you want to be treated fair, come over to Mayweather Promotions. We believe in the talent winning," Mayweather said. "That's what we believe in. We believe in treating our boxers and our MMA fighters fair. I want a lot of MMA fighters to get in touch with Mayweather Promotions."

Mayweather went on to claim that he was the type who "loves to think outside the box", leaving a guarantee that fighters that would be fighting under his banner would be making more money. Over the years, various fighters, particularly under the UFC, have complained about the unfair treatment from top management, which eventually led to a class action lawsuit being filed against the company.

On Saturday night, Mayweather caught up with Fight Hype, where he once again discussed his plans to transition to mixed martial arts promotion.

"It's time for me to move over to MMA," he said. "I mean talking as far as -- It's time for me to start promoting fights for the MMA. I'm ready to get involved with that business now."

Ironically, Mayweather has also been vocal about his dislike towards mixed martial arts. In a 2009 report by the Las Vegas Sun, the former pound-for-pound king of boxing described cage fighting as something to "be done with animals, not humans", adding "it takes true skills" to compete in a sport like boxing.
