Floyd Mayweather News: 'Money May' Says He And Promoter Al Haymon 'Dictate And Control' Boxing Today

Retired undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. has managed to remain relevant within the boxing landscape of today, despite being a mere spectator from the sidelines after being an active competitor for two decades.

"Money May" retired from the sport of boxing for the second time in September of the past year, after handily defeating two-time welterweight champion Andre Berto in Las Vegas. He left the sport with a record of 49-0, with 26 victories by knockout.

Prior to his fight against Berto, Mayweather earned the biggest paycheck of his career when his mega fight against eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao finally happened on May 2nd, after a five-year build-up.

In the said fight, Mayweather made at least $220 million, given the final numbers amounting to around $600 million. In a September 2015 report by Forbes.com, he finished his career with $700 million.

Mayweather is currently in the UK for various media obligations and meet-ups with some fans.

In a report by Carlos Boogs for Boxingscene, the former pound-for-pound king of boxing first teased his British fans about a possible return, if it was meant to happen. But he also clarified and once again reiterated that he intends to remain retired and "stay away" from the sport of boxing.

Mayweather also reportedly made a bold declaration, saying that he, along with long-time adviser Al Haymon are the ones who are currently in control of the sport of boxing today.

Haymon is most notably known for helping Mayweather get out of his contract with Bob Arum's Top Rank Promotions in 2007. It was the same year when Mayweather Promotions was founded.

According to Mayweather, he has always aspired to take control of the sport of boxing, and believes that he does so, along with Haymon.

"I dictate and control boxing the way I want to dictate and control the sport," Mayweather said. "Right now, we have all the say so in the sport of boxing, me and Al Haymon."
