Focus on the Family will host the “Love Won Out” conference next month in Birmingham, Ala., to address the issue of homosexuality.

On Sept.17, Focus on the Family will gather a wide range of speakers with different experiences and approaches to homosexuality yet sharing a common belief that a person can overcome homosexuality through Jesus Christ.

"While the gay life is often glorified in 'pride' festivals and through the media, we offer a distinctly different message – one of hope and healing for those who don't share that sense of pride," says Mike Haley, director of the Homosexuality and Gender department for Focus on the Family's Public Policy division and a former homosexual. "I and thousands of others know firsthand that there is a way out of unwanted homosexuality."

Since 1998, the Love Won Out conference has assembled speakers who share about ministering to friends and family members struggling with homosexuality. Notably, the conference offers personal experiences with battling homosexuality.

The conference includes speakers such as Nancy Heche, the mother of Anne Heche and whose husband died of AIDS; Dr. Nicolosi, the president of National Association of Research and Therapy of Homosexuality (NARTH); Alan Chambers, the President of Exodus International, who left homosexuality in 1991; and Bill Maier, the vice president of Focus on the Family, among many other distinguish guests.

The one-day event marks the 35th presentation since its beginning in seven years ago and has been presented in 32 cities internationally, reaching out to over 26,000 people.

“The issues of homosexuality and same-sex marriage are becoming increasingly politicized in our culture, but Love Won Out’s message continues to focus on the hope and love that is found in Jesus Christ,” says conference speaker and former lesbian Melissa Fryrear.

Fryrear continued, “We are here to offer a perspective that is rarely heard anywhere else: There is a way out of the homosexual life for those who wish to take it.”
