Football Coach Bobby Petrino Hospitalized After Motorcycle Crash

Arkansas football coach, Bobby Petrino, is in a "stable condition" after crashing his motorcycle near a small town 20 miles southeast of Fayetteville over the weekend.

Petrino reportedly veered off a two-lane highway causing the accident and while he was hospitalized for treatment his family confirmed that they expect him "to make a full recovery."

"Coach Petrino was involved in a motorcycle accident on Sunday evening that involved no other individuals. He is in stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery. Our family appreciates respect for our privacy during the recovery and we are grateful for the thoughts of Razorback fans at this time," Petrino's family said in a recent statement.

The 51-year-old, who has served the position of head football coach at the University of Arkansas since 2008, did not suffer any life threatening injuries in the crash although he was described as being "pretty banged up," according to ESPN.

Few details have been disclosed about Petrino's accident although Athletic director, Jeff Long, is believed to have visited him at an unknown hospital.

"Coach Petrino is resting comfortably and is encouraged by the progress of his recovery. I know that he is very much looking forward to returning to spring practice at the earliest opportunity. In the course of our visit, the Petrinos expressed their appreciation for all the thoughts and well wishes that have come in from all over the country," Long said.

Petrino, who once admitted to owning at least five motorcycles including a Harley Davidson, previously spoke about his love for bikes.

"It's relaxing to me. You get out and you get to see some good scenery, and I like to ride up to Beaver Lake. It's pretty up there. I've been around the outdoors. I grew up around the outdoors my whole life," Petrino, a Helena, Mont., native, told Northwest Arkansas Media in 2008.

Petrino is renowned for significantly improving The Razorbacks who were 5-7 during his first season in 2008 and 8-5 in 2009, even going on to win the Liberty Bowl over East Carolina.
