Galaxy Mega 5.8 Projected to Sell 1 Million Units Per Month

Samsung hopes to move 1 million units of its new Galaxy Mega 5.8 smartphone per month.

The company has placed an order for that number of LCD panel units to its supplier the Chunghwa Picture Tubes and another supplier, the Giantplus Technology, according to a report from YouMobile.org.

The Galaxy Mega is a mid-range device with a fairly large display, catering to those who want a big smartphone and are not interested in the Galaxy Note 2. Samsung recently unveiled the new line, which also features a 6.3-inch version for those looking for a handset close to the size of a mini tablet. Both of these smartphones feature mid-range specifications with their main selling point being their unique sizes.

The Galaxy Mega 5.8-inch model comes with HSPA connectivity only. It features a qHD display with 960 x 540 resolution with a 1.4GHz dual-core processor. It comes with the same 8-megapixel camera as the larger version and is sold with only 8GB of internal storage.

There has been no word on pricing yet for either of these devices.

The Galaxy Mega's 6.3-inch screen falls just below the Samsung's flagship Galaxy Tab 7.0 in terms of size. The company appears to be unafraid to release at device at any screen size. And even though these two behemoths trump the Galaxy Note 2 in screen size, the S Pen accessory is noticeably absent here, making them nothing more than blown up versions of smaller Samsung devices.

Other companies such as Huawei and Sony have been inspired by the Note, creating larger smartphones to compete with the phablet. This Galaxy Mega line appears to be Samsung's plan to crush all those competitors by having this massive smartphone market locked down.
