Samsung chose to make the Galaxy S5 water and dust resistant taking cues from one of its older successful devices, the Galaxy S4 Active.
Both devices are designed for people who do everyday life, however, the Galaxy S5's water resistance is not the same as the full-proof Galaxy S4. It can basically be dropped it in water and left there for a bit and work perfectly. Aside from the obvious advantage in this area, how do the devices match up to one another in the rest of the departments? Here is a spec comparison of the two.
The Galaxy S5 has the perforated backing and smaller bezels than the Galaxy S4. The S4 Active is a bulkier device that can feel heavy, but this body basically makes it able to withstand large amounts of water. The Galaxy S5 definitely looks more like a solid smartphone while the S4 Active could have the appearance of a toy. Therefore, the new model will probably beat out its heavy-duty predecessor in this area.
The Galaxy S4 Active comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor with 2GB RAM while the Galaxy S5 packs a Snapdragon 801 quad-core 2.5GHz processor with the same amount of RAM. The Galaxy S5 has an advantage with the processor, but the Galaxy S4 Active is far from slow. Both devices will be enough for the average smartphone user, however, the Galaxy S5 represents the next generation of speed.
Being Water and Dust resistant just isn't as impressive as being Water and Dust proof. The Galaxy S4 Active can be dunked in water and will still work perfectly once it's pulled out. The flap found on the Galaxy S5 makes it water and dust resistant which is a convenient extra. The only other decent edition made to the flagship is the new heart rate monitor, which caters to the fitness market. However, the water- and dust-proof body on the S4 Active is more impressive overall.
The Galaxy S5 comes with a Super AMOLED 5.1-inch display with 1980 x 1080 resolution. This is basically the same as the screen on the Galaxy S4 except it's slightly bigger. The S4 Active features the same display, making the two devices dead even in this category. They are the same size and have the same resolution.
The Galaxy S4 Active is the best device for those doing construction or in love with the great outdoors. The Galaxy S5 is a high-end device that will probably be followed up with an Active model later this year. Both devices are great and cater to different audiences. When it comes to having state of the art tech, the Galaxy S5 is definitely the one and beats out the Galaxy S4 Active in most areas.
