'Gambit' Movie News: Film Producer Confirms 'Gambit' in the Works, Channing Tatum to Portray Titular Superhero

After months of silence, film writer and producer Simon Kinberg has confirmed that "Gambit" is finally in the works. Back in November 2016, reports surfaced that the movie would be put back into development soon as the search for a new director commenced.

In the course of the "Gambit" production, two of its directors left. While the movie hit a snag when Rupert Wyatt and Doug Liman abandoned the project, Kinberg assured fans that the movie will continue.

Kinberg confirmed the news recently while updating the "X-Men" movie universe. During an interview with Deadline, he said they were currently working on several movies, including "Gambit," starring Channing Tatum.

"We are working hard on 'New Mutants,' 'Gambit' with Channing Tatum, 'Deadpool 2,' and the new 'X Force' movie where Deadpool is alongside Cable and other main characters," said Kinberg.

Among the many actors who wanted to get on board the Marvel movie, Tatum was the lucky one who had been cast as the titular character, Gambit the Cajun mutant. Kinberg also confirmed that the script for the film could be finalized by the end of this year so filming could start early next year.

Marvel previously hinted that the movie would premiere in 2016 but it did not happen, so fans thought "Gambit" would no longer see the light of the day. According to Kinberg, however, the movie is already in active development.

Meanwhile, Kinberg also revealed how all the "X-Men" movies will interconnect.

"I talk to the studio all the time about this and there is a plan for how these movies can connect and be a part of a larger narrative. It's something that's fun, exciting and it will be interesting to see how we marry the different tones that we've been generating in these standalone movies of the 'X-Men' universe," he said.

The film producer did not reveal when "Gambit" will hit theaters, but mentioning that "Deadpool" took 10 years to develop, it looks like the highly anticipated film will not hit theaters anytime soon.
