Giada de Laurentiis Announces Divorce on Facebook; Is it Because of John Mayer?

Giada de Laurentiis announced her divorce with Todd Thompson after 11 years of marriage.

The chef married Thompson in 2003 and announced the separation on her Facebook account. She wrote:
"After an amicable separation since July, Todd and I have decided to end our marriage. Although our decision to separate comes with a great deal of sadness, our focus on the future and overwhelming desire for our family's happiness has given us the strength to move forward on separate, yet always connected paths."

Giada also thanked the people who supported her.

"Todd and I share a beautiful daughter and a lifetime of great memories that we both treasure more than anything. We are so thankful for our friends and family, and really appreciate the support in this time of change," the chef added.

There are speculations that the divorce was caused by Giada's involvement with John Mayer. In 2009, the cooking show host was rumored to have a hook up with Mayer at the Gansevoort Hotel in New York.

In an interview with "Redbook" magazine in 2011, Giada denied the rumors and revealed that her husband was affected with it.

"The John Mayer incident was completely unexpected. I was shocked. And not so much for me, but for my husband and family. Todd was embarrassed that his family in Michigan would see it and think, What is going on over there in Hollywood?" Giada said.

The Food Network star said that she only met Mayer on a brief occasion.

"I haven't had any contact with John Mayer in three years. You know how you'll briefly get introduced to somebody? Maybe we chatted for five minutes, but I wouldn't consider that intimate," she explained. "I think the only things that could have possibly have tied us together is that we were at the same hotel that weekend in question. Which, by the way, my husband was with me there as well."

Amidst the relationship issues, the chef's show "Giada at Home" continues to be a success. Fans can catch her sharing her cooking skills every Sunday at 10:30 a.m. and 9:30 p.m. on The Food Network.
