'Glee' Ending Next Season; Ryan Murphy to Honor Cory Monteith

Ryan Murphy announced the end of "Glee," after the next season, upsetting fans but noting that the final season will continue to pay tribute to the late Cory Monteith, who died earlier this year of a drug overdose.

"The final year of the show, which will be next year, was designed around Rachel and Cory/Finn's story. I always knew that, I always knew how it would end," Murphy said at a Paley Center event. "I knew that the last shot was – he was in it. I knew what the last line was – she said it to him. So when a tragedy like that happens you sort of have to pause and figure out what you want to do, so we're figuring that out now."

The show's latest episode, "The Quarterback," dealt with the loss of Monteith's character, Finn, and how the rest of the "Glee" cast memorialized him in song. It did not, however, explain how Finn died but instead paid tribute to his life. Cast members all chose songs related to Finn and his time on the show.

"I have a good idea," Murphy explained. "I'm going to tell the studio and the network [in a week] how after Cory's unfortunate passing we can end the show that I think is very satisfactory. And kind of in his honor, which I love."

Fans are already reacting to the news with disbelief and great upset; the news comes after they just had to say goodbye to Monteith's character.

"Going to cry like niagra falls when glee ends in 2015," tweeted Emily Annax.

"Glee is ending next year… it was suppose to end off w finchel but… I'm crying so bad… I can't" added Nurul Alisya.

However, some "Gleeks" disagree and have said that Murphy made the right decision, as the show is just not the same without Monteith.

"Glee ending after season 6," tweeted Roberto Woods. "I think that's a good decision. Ryan Murphy has been amazing!"

The second half of season five will air later this year, and the next and final season will air in 2015.
