'God Of War 4' Release Date Rumors: Kratos' 10th Anniversary

"God of War 4" fans are expecting a launch date soon as Santa Monica Studios gears up for the 10th Anniversary of the franchise next month.

Iconic gaming franchise, "God of War" will soon reach its first decade, and developer, Santa Monica Studios may just announce "God of War 4" to celebrate Kratos' 10th year.

Shannon Studstill, Santa Monica Studios' Senior Director and one of the original progenitors of the game, hinted at a "special anniversary celebration" for fans of the gaming franchise, revealing a year filled with "great surprises" that's geared at being of great significance to the developer and game fans, PlayStation Lifestyle wrote.

This following two years of rumors and conjecture after "God of War: Ascension's" huge impact on PS3 did not see any follow-up activity from Sony or producers of the game.

As the franchise's 10th anniversary approaches, fans have been bombarding the developer's official page with tweets paying tribute to Kratos, dubbed the most famous Spartan to ever exist, albeit on the gaming screen. The messages were in the form of YouTube videos, and even Valentine's Day-based fan art, making it clear "God of War" fans aren't prepared to have Kratos retire from the fight.

Studstill remarked that 2014 was a rough year for the video game developer, with an unnamed project halted, causing a schedule overhaul and massive lay-offs at Santa Monica. She promised gaming fans, however, that the Ghost of Sparta series would go on.

Rumors of a possible remake in HD for 2016 have hit the gaming community, and that there may be a total reboot of the series in its entirety.

In any case, according to Cory Barlog, the developer's Creative Director, who's been cited as having confirmed "God of War 4", the game is currently in its early production stages, and is moving forward at a pace where fans may expect its release, not in March this year, but the following year at the very latest.
