Gonzaga Bulldogs vs Southern University Jaguars takes place in the NCAA 2013 tournament on Thursday with both looking to make it through this second round clash and take the spot in the third round. The game is scheduled to tip off at 4.10 p.m. ET and can be watched online through free live stream (details below).
The No. 1 ranked Bulldogs are favorites this year, having gone through the season 31-2. They have won the West Coast Conference championship and the top seed in the West region.
This team definitely looks more capable than their side last year, which succumbed to the Ohio State Buckeyes 73-66 in the round of 32. With a deeper squad and more stand out players, the Bulldogs will take some stopping in this year's NCAA.
The team has a strong nucleus centered around Kelly Olynyk, Kevin Pangos, Elias Harris and David Stockton. Olynyk has averaged 17.5 points and 7.2 rebounds, and is currently touted as one of the top 5 college players in the country right now.
Meanwhile Southern University are the champions of the Southwestern Athletic Conference, and are now shining after a tough last four years following an academic scandal at the school which almost wiped out the program.
They have not faced Gonzaga since 2010, when a much weaker side succumbed to the Bulldogs by a massive margin of 117-72. The Jaguars lost 24 times that season, which shows what a difference a few years can make.
However, the No. 16 Jaguars will have their work cut out for them today if they are to cause an upset and take down the mighty Bulldogs, and most pundits will have already pencilled in Gonzaga for the third round.
