Google Nexus 2016 to Have 'Always-On' Feature with LG G5 as Base Model?

The Google Nexus 2016 smartphone will have an always-on screen using the upcoming LG G5 as the base model, based on the latest rumors.

LG Mobile has released a teaser GIF image confirming that the LG G5 will have a front panel that will never sleep. There is a possibility that the Google Nexus 2016 will use the said device as a reference model, according to Yibada.

Based on LG's announcement on its official Facebook page, the LG G5 will be unveiled on Feb. 21. The "always-on" screen feature was first introduced by Motorola in its Moto X lineup a few years ago, the report notes.

The "always-on" display of the LG G5 is mainly for timekeeping and notification purposes. It will allow the user to constantly know the time and easily see missed notifications via a small app icon, 9to5Google reports.

In addition, the LG G5 will also feature an integrated motion detector that will wake up the smartphone with one tap. However, the existence of a voice assistant in the upcoming flagship is still unconfirmed, the report details.

Aside from LG, Samsung is also rumored to have come up with a way to incorporate an "always-on" screen feature without taking a big toll on the battery life, the report adds.

The LG G5's specs and features are reportedly congruent with Google's requirements for its next flagship device. The new LG handset appears to be made of melded glass and metal shaped into a premium smartphone. The device also runs the powerful Snapdragon 820 processor with 4 GB of RAM, the report relays.

Google, however, will reportedly overhaul the hardware of its upcoming smartphone to make it at par or even better than the Apple iPhone.

The LG G5 is expected to be released by March 2016. If it will indeed be the base model for the Google Nexus 2016 handset, the latter will most likely come out by the third quarter.
