Google Nexus 6 Release Date: New Device Coming Q4 2014

It's been almost a year since the Nexus 5's release and with Google's yearly release habits, the Nexus 6 should have been out by now. Still, it probably won't be much longer before the next Google flagship phone is released – rumors say the company's latest handset will be released before the year's end.

The Nexus 6 is also known as the Nexus X and is made by Motorola under the codename Motorola Shamu.

The Google Nexus line always got an end-of-the-year release date, with the exception of the first one which was released during January. The third and fourth Nexus was released on a November, while the Nexus 5 was released last October. It's safe to assume that the Nexus 6 will come out on or around October, according to reports.

As for the specs, it is rumored that the Nexus 6 will be getting either a 5.5-inch or a 5.2-inch QHD display (2560 x 1440 pixel resolution). The display size and resolution is a step up from previous models and is a response to the LG G3's QHD display move.

The smartphone is going to make a jump to the 64-bit chipset so its going to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 quad-core 2.7GHz Krait 450 processor with an Adreno 420 GPU. There's going to be only a 32GB variant so far and has 3GB of RAM.

The Nexus 6 is also going to run on Google's next mobile operating system, the Android 5.0 or Android L as it's more commonly known. With the release of the Android L to be sometime this fall, the Nexus 6 might follow shortly after further supporting a Q4 2014 release.

The Nexus line has always been known for it's comparatively low price and impressive specs and the Nexus 6 won't be an exception. Early estimates put the price for the smartphone at $550.
